Im Rahmen von KINO DER KUNST
Insgesamt neun der über 200 Arbeiten umfassenden Video-Serie »Assembly Line« des chinesischen Künstlers Li Xiaofei (geb. 1973 in der Provinz Hunan, lebt in New York und Shanghai) zur industriellen Warenproduktion wurden in seiner ersten institutionellen Einzelausstellung Deutschlands unter erschwerten Bedingungen dieses Frühjahr im Kunstraum München und auch online gezeigt. Sein preisgekröntes jüngstes Werk »I Am the People 1« ist jetzt an zwei Tagen im Rahmen von KINO DER KUNST im Obergeschoss des Kunstraum München zu sehen.
»Wie können wir innerhalb dieser Gemeinschaft, in der das Leben wie gewohnt weitergeht, durch diese gewöhnlichen, prosaischen, allgemeinen, schlichten und aufrichtigen individuellen Erfahrungen und Lebensphasen eine Gesellschaft des Selbst aufbauen? Wie die gegenwärtigen singulären und dauerhaften Denkweisen untersuchen? Wie können wir den Raum der gesellschaftlichen Existenz und Kommunikation innerhalb der sozio-politischen und wirtschaftlichen Strukturen langfristig beeinflussen?« (Li Xiaofei)
In the spring of this year, the Kunstraum München presented the work of Chinese artist Li Xiaofei (born in 1973 in Hunan Province, lives in New York and Shanghai) in his first institutional solo exhibition in Germany. On view were nine works from the artist’s Assembly Line series that comprises over 200 videos on the industrial production of goods. Due to the difficult conditions, the exhibition also took place online. Now, his most recent and award-winning film, »I Am the People 1,« can be viewed on the upper floor of the Kunstraum München on two days.
»Within this community, where life goes on as usual, through these ordinary, pedestrian, common, plain and sincere individual experiences, and phases of life, how can we build a society of the self, to examine the current singular and enduring modes of thinking, and how to influence the space of people’s existence and communication in a long-term way within the socio-political and economic structures.« (Li Xiaofei)

Eine vielschichtige Schilderung der Beziehungen zwischen Gesellschaft und Industrie, voller Anspielungen auf komplexe politische Haltungen. Der Filmemacher hat ein intellektuelles und gleichzeitig sensibles und poetisches Bild gefunden für die Frage, was es bedeutet, bewusst in unserer Zeit zu leben. Ein Film, der unserer Zeit würdig ist.
The International Critics’ Prize (FIPRESCI Prize):
The FIPRESCI Prize goes to Xiaofei Li’s »I Am the People 1« for an intelligent, slow-burning portrait of a society and its courageous, yet necessarily indirect, diagnosis of that society. Challenging traditional modes of perception, it explores the relationship between industrial production and social development.
